Poster Display Initiative: FAQs
Poster Display Initiative: FAQs
What is BEGS?
BEGS is the Bioengineering Graduate Student Group. Click on "About BEGS" on the left menu for more information.
What size is the poster display?
The poster display is 42" x 51.5". This fits most standard conference poster sizes (see example above).
What will be in the poster display?
Graduate research posters will be in the poster display that you sponsor. The PIs (Principal Investigators) of the laboratories affiliated with Bioengineering will be responsible for making sure that students display their work.
Where will the poster display be?
There are over 100 locations on the walls in the Powell-Focht Bioengineering Hall (PFBH), shown above, that can fit a poster display, ranging from the first through fourth floors. The PFBH is the Bioengineering hall, completed and opened in 2002. If you have been away from campus for a while, take a look at the PFBH.
How long will my name be displayed with the poster display?
The poster display and corresponding nameplate are intended to be permanent. As long as PFBH is the home to Bioengineering, your poster and nameplate will be there.
How am I recognized for my contribution?
Your name will be displayed along with the poster display that you sponsor. The nameplate will recognize your generosity and be seen by top scientists from industry and academia who walk through the Powell-Focht Bioengineering Hall (PFBH).
How much does the actual poster display cost you to purchase and install?
Each poster display costs about $350 (varies with amount purchased). The nameplate, where you will be recognized for your support will be about $20. We have avoided installation costs by having BEGS members volunteer their time, tools, and energy to installing the poster displays.
Where does the extra money I donate go?
Your support will purchase the poster display and nameplate. Beyond those costs, your support will help with the events and activities of BEGS. BEGS holds two main events: the BWI and the Symposium. We also hold 'TGIF' events after our weekly Friday seminar about once per quarter. BEGS would like to further their involvement in the university and the department, but needs some resources to do so.
Where else does BEGS get funding?
In the past BEGS has functioned from the financial support of the Department of Bioengineering, the Bioengineering Graduate Student Group's Industrial Liaison Committee, the Office of Graduate Studies and Research (OGSR), and the UCSD Graduate Student Association (GSA). While there are many organizations supporting BEGS, the funds from each no longer cover the costs of our events.
Is there a student I can talk to for more information?
Yes! Contact: Adam Feist, (858) 822-3181, a 5th year graduate student working for Dr. Bernhard Palsson.
How can I purchase a poster display?
You can purchase a poster display to support BEGS online via credit card, by mail via check, or over the phone. Click here.
Can my company match my donation?
We certainly welcome company matches to donations - to double your contribution above what you donate, or to bring it to the purchase price. See if your company participates on the giving website under "Matching Funds" at the bottom.
