He is in his second year of pursuing a Master's Degree in Bioengineering and his research focuses on mechanotransduction pathways in hMSCs. If Alistair is not doing research, he is probably playing ultimate Frisbee. Go Squids!
Ivneet Bhullar is Vice President - Internal of Bioengineering Graduate Society. He is a second-year M.S. student working on biomaterials and stem cell engineering for tissue engineering applications in the Varghese Lab. Ivneet also enjoys outdoor activities, such as hiking, soccer, and basketball, as well as exploring new areas and food of San Diego.
Gaurav Agrawal is Vice President - External of Bioengineering Graduate Society and a second-year M.S. student studying biomaterials and tissue engineering in the Varghese Lab. Aside from school, Gaurav loves sports (basketball, soccer, tennis) and trying new food.
Chairs and Representatives
Jessica Ungerleider is the Chair - Outreach of Bioengineering Graduate Society. She is a second year Ph.D. student in the Christman lab and her research is based on biomaterial therapies for peripheral artery disease. She also enjoys running, hiking, biking, and tasting local San Diego beers.
Kara Johnson is the Chair - Alumni Relations of Bioengineering Graduate Society. She is a second year Ph.D. student from UC Davis interested in epigenetics and gene regulation. While she has many interests outside of her research, a few of her favorite are gymnastics, cooking, and being crafty.
Aimee Raleigh is the Chair - Breakfast with Industry of Bioengineering Graduate Society and a Ph.D. student in the Cartilage Tissue Engineering lab. In her free time, Aimee enjoys long weekend hikes and baking.
Vivek Parthasarathy is the Chair - Bioengineering Day of Bioengineering Graduate Society. He is a second year Ph.D. student in the Bioinformatics, Systems Biology, and Systems Medicine Lab. Vivek finds translational medicine research and new Zelda games equally exciting, and splits his free time between playing cricket, cooking, and trying to understand the Bear.
Sheng-Hsiou (Shawn) Hsu is the Chair - Curriculum Development of Bioengineering Graduate Society. He is a 3rd year Ph.D. student working on EEG data analysis and brain-computer interface (BCI) at Swartz Center for Computational Neuroscience with Dr. Jung and Dr. Cauwenberghs. As an international student from Taiwan, he loves to explore the new world. He also enjoys teaching, doing cool side projects, and making friends.
Mike Gibbons is the Chair - Recruitment of Bioengineering Graduate Society. He is a second year Bioengineering PhD student from Danville, California. He graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with my B.S. and M.S. in biomedical engineering, and is currently working with Dr. Adam Engler and Dr. Sam Ward to characterize the pathophysiology of rotator cuff muscle following tendon tear, with the ultimate goal of identifying and investigating clinical targets to improve rotator cuff repair and regeneration.
Justin Tan is a Graduate Student Association Representative. He is a second year Ph.D. student in Bioengineering and is currently working in the Systems Biology Research Group under Dr. Palsson doing research on microbial communities. Having played rugby for the past 13 years, Justin enjoys playing sports and being active. He is currently learning how to surf and playing IM flag football for the BEGS team.
Chia-Hung (Jay) Tai is the Chair - M.Eng Committee of Bioengineering Graduate Society. He is a Master of Engineering student, received his undergraduate degree from U.C. Berkeley and is interested in research on biomaterials for drug delivery devices, which he hopes to work on in industry afterwards. During his free time, he enjoys biking and watching basketball.
Cory Stevenson is a Graduate Student Association Representative. He is a fifth year Ph.D. candidate in Bioengineering researching neural control of human movement with the Integrated Systems Neuroengineering Lab. He enjoys cooking, swimming, and reading.
Andrew Richards is a Graduate Student Association Representative. He is a fourth year Ph.D. student in Bioengineering working in the Integrative Genomics lab under Professor Kun Zhang. He studies DNA copy number variations (CNVs) in single cells from the human brain. He enjoys surfing, sailing, and the amazing beers brewed in and around San Diego.
Tony Yen is the Jacobs Graduate Student Council (JGSC) Representative, in charge of communicating cross-organizational events. As a 3rd year Ph.D. student in Bioengineering, Tony researches and develops molecular/cellular-based diagnostic technology for the Lo Group in the ECE department.
